Guardians of the Galaxy Movie Review

I wanted my first post back to be about my thoughts on the movie Guardians of the Galaxy! It's taken me awhile to post this because I was really blown away and in lost of words. After about a 3 weeks and seeing the movie twice I can finally sit down and share my opinion. There are huge SPOILERS ahead. For those that haven't seen the movie...WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR???!!! Get your ass to theaters now! Anyways...here we go.

When I saw the the first trailer that premiered on the Jimmy Kimmel show earlier this year I knew right away this movie was going to be awesome! So coming into this I had very HIGH expectations. The opening scene is a tear jerker. Without going into much detail the movie starts of with a young Peter Quill losing his mother at the hospital. I was like, "Whoa! Did that just happen already?" But right away you make that connection with the little boy and feel for him and his loss. Everyone has lost someone they loved before and I think the audience made a quick connection with Peter. And as the movie progressed knowing that he lost his mother, you keep rooting for Peter to pull through any challenge that he faces.

As the opening credits come through you see an older Peter Quill on a deserted planet exploring and obviously looking for something. With the song "Come and Get Your Love", the feel for this second scene surely sets up the rest of the movie very nicely. It gets you into the mood of whats to come. And it surely doesn't disappoint. Gamora, Rocket, and Groot all seemed to have appeared at the same time. It's a great action sequence which ends up getting the 4 of them caught and thrown in prison. When in prison you get to learn a little about each one of them. Where they came from and how they ended where they are now. The 4 of them meet Drax in prison and that's when all hell breaks loose. The group ends up escaping and breaking out of prison because of the genius that is Rocket. His technical and strategical knowlegde really shines here and shows us that this little raccoon is more than meets the eye. We get to see the Guardians really work as team and mesh together. The chemistry was great between the 5 of them. In another scene we also get a full body image of Thanos and his plans for the Infinty Stones. Ronan the Accuser and Nebula plan their next move against the NOVA Corp. Thanos looks great! Very powerful looking and mean. It's too bad he didn't get more screen time. Anyways, Ronan and Nebula were great villains in this movie. Forgettable but they did their job. In the Marvel Universe we haven't had that one main villain that can over throw the great job Loki has done. I was hoping Ronan would take the reigns but he ends up dying at the end of this movie so that sucks.

But as the movie goes on you try and pick up "Easter eggs" here and there. It's almost like a scavenger hunt with these Marvel movies. The movie ends with a great big battle of GOOD vs EVIL (of course) and gives us a preview of what the NOVA Corp. can do. I really think the NOVA Corp. might have a bigger role in the upcoming Guardian's movie. Overall the movie was great! The best Marvel movie in my opinion. If you haven't seen it, shame on you! I plan on seeing it for a third time within the next week. =)

I did have one problem with the film and where it puts us for the sequel and in the Marvel Universe time line. It seems to me that the Marvel Universe is going to revolve on Thanos as the "main" bad guy for their movies. Everything is pointing to a big showdown with The Avengers and Guardians vs Thanos in upcoming films. But we are about 10 films in and we have yet to see Thanos get his hands on an Infinity Stone. I mean come on! When are we going to see the bad guys win for once? It's been confirmed that Thanos will have his great battle against good in the Avengers 3 movie which is set to be released in 2018. By then, another 10 Marvel movies will have come out. So it's going to take Marvel almost 20 movies to reach the final climax with Thanos. Jeez, what a marathon. I hope I don't loose interest by then. LOL. The Avengers 2 is set for a May 2015 release. I can't wait to see what happens next!
